The Pines Community Men’s Shed contributes an enormous amount to our community, as a place of social networking and support for local men and others in need.

The Coalition Government is proud of its commitment to organisations and services which are doing so much for others, to enable them to continue and build on their good work.

As such, I am delighted the Government has granted another $6,500 to the shed to go towards construction of a unisex/ disabled toilet and change room facilities at the shed’s community garden.

The grant is the second provided to the shed under the National Shed Development Programme this year, following a $5,000 grant for upgrade of the solar panel system.

The new toilet and change room will accommodate women and those with disability in particular who use or wish to use the shed and garden.

I want to congratulate the shed’s committed members and supporters for wanting to improve their facilities, but also for their ongoing contributions in our community.

Most recently, the shed team undertook a program of fundraising for local terminally ill boy Andrew Kovac for much needed treatment.  I was honoured to support the shed throughout this process and attend a fundraising event.

Sadly, Andrew recently passed away, but the funding greatly assisted the family in paying for the funeral and having one less concern on their mind when they were coping with their grief.

It is these acts which make the shed very special, and why we will always look for opportunities to support it.
