Minister for Social Services, the Hon. Scott Morrison and Minister for Small Business Bruce Billson have officially launched the Communities for Children Strategic Plan to help vulnerable children in Frankston and surrounding areas.

“After strong representations by Minister Billson, I was delighted to visit Frankston and launch Anglicare Victoria’s Communities for Children Frankston Community Strategic Plan for 2015-2019 and Evaluation Report on Friday,” Minister Morrison said.

“The Abbott Government has committed $4.9 million over five years to Anglicare Victoria under the Communities for Children Facilitating Partner initiative to achieve positive outcomes for families in the local area.

“The report highlights significant achievements of Communities for Children Frankston providing support to over 3,900 local children and their families, and I look forward to seeing the results in the future as these programmes continue,” Minister Morrison said.

Communities for Children Frankston improves child, family and community wellbeing by working collaboratively to overcome the challenges and difficulties of raising children within vulnerable families. It supports children by improving their self-esteem, resilience, and addressing issues of identity, social isolation and family relationships. The Communities for Children Facilitating Partner initiative is operating in 52 sites across Australia, through nearly $254 million in Australian Government funding over five years.

Minister Billson said enthusiasm for Communities for Children Frankston stems from our shared belief that “your postcode doesn’t determine your potential”.

“Communities for Children Frankston operates within our local community to address issues of family vulnerability and violence impacting on children, through parent education, transitions, and child wellbeing programmes,” Minister Billson said.

“Communities for Children Frankston helps vulnerable local children and families reach their potential. I am passionate about the programmes run in Frankston and have advocated fiercely for this service.

“At the launch we heard from an inspiring single mother, Lisa Harmer, who credits Communities for Children Frankston with significantly improving her confidence, wellbeing and work potential through the Learn, Engage and Connect programme.

“Anglicare Victoria’s stakeholders report high levels of satisfaction with the services provided to them, and it is wonderful to see so many stakeholders working together to achieve positive outcomes for children,” Minister Billson said.

Following the launch, Ministers Morrison and Billson heard from local welfare and community groups and government agencies about these successful local programmes.
