Australia Day 2016

Tuesday 26 January 2016

Hundreds of Dunkley residents will formalise their Australian citizenship on Australia Day this year.

Congratulations to all of those citizens, as well as their family and friends, who started their life journey somewhere else but have chosen to put their hopes, energies, talents and aspiration into Australia to build a better future for themselves and our nation.

We welcome our new citizens who have pledged their allegiance to Australia, a shared commitment to our democratic beliefs, respect for the rights and liberties of being a citizen and to upholding and obeying our laws.

I encourage our new citizens to make a full contribution to Australia and recognise their important decision to choose our nation as their bedrock for a positive, productive life supported by our enduring Aussie values.

Their choice of our Dunkley community as their home already demonstrates wisdom and an appreciation of all the great things and the abundant potential we have to offer and that can be strengthened by the contribution of our new citizens.

I will be attending both of the Dunkley ceremonies in Frankston City and Mornington Peninsula Shire and look forward to welcoming our new citizens and celebrating our national day with local residents.

I hope Dunkley citizens enjoy their Australia Day spending time with family and friends, and attending one of the many community events around the electorate.

For me, the Australia Day weekend also represents the lead up to the Parliamentary sitting year, and I look forward to working hard representing and advancing the interests of the people of Dunkley to build a strong local economy that can create local jobs and small business opportunities.
