Congratulations to Anne Cross – Telstra’s Business Women of the Year

The Minister for Small Business, Bruce Billson MP and the Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Women, Senator Michaela Cash today congratulated Telstra Business Women of the Year Anne Cross on her wonderful achievement.

Minister Billson said that Ms Cross’ success is inspiring and she is a true leader in the business community.

“Ms Cross has demonstrated what can be achieved by women in business and she is a role model for other women aspiring to business success,” he said.

Minister Billson, who presented the award to Ms Cross said all of the finalists should be incredibly proud of their achievements and their contribution to the business sector.

“Encouraging women in small business will see a boost to Australia’s productivity and help us to achieve sustainable, inclusive growth,” Minister Billson said.

“Women in business have a lot to offer our economy.

“Awards such as the Telstra Women in Business Awards are just one way we as a community can support the unique skills and talents of women in the business sector.”

Minister Cash said improving gender equality and diversity in Australian businesses and workplaces was vital to increasing Australia’s productivity.

“We know that there are clear economic benefits of gender equality – businesses that have a diverse workforce have been shown to perform better,” Minister Cash said.

“This was reinforced at the recent G20 meeting where leaders agreed to the goal of reducing the gap in participation rates between men and women in our countries by 25 per cent by 2025.

“In achieving the 25 by 25 goal in Australia we will see up to 200,000 additional women participating in the labor force above current employment projections.

“To reach this goal the Australian Government will be working with the business sector to support more women into leadership roles and business ownership.

“The Government already has a number of policies either in place or proposed which will achieve this target, including improving access to affordable, flexible, accessible child care and enhancing existing paid parental leave arrangements.

“The Government has the fundamentals in place, and we will consider additional avenues to ensure that we meet this ambitious but credible aim.”

The Telstra Women in Business Awards have been run annually since 1995 and celebrate the inspirational achievements of women across the business sector.
