Local Federal MP for Dunkley, Bruce Billson today hosted the Minister for Communications, the Hon Malcolm Turnbull in Frankston to provide an update on the progress of the NBN and to discuss the Mobile Blackspot Programme.

Mr Billson said it was great to have Minister Turnbull in the electorate to talk with local businesses, Councils and residents and also visit future sites to be connected to the NBN.

“Minister Turnbull’s visit is an important follow-up to the pre-election visit where the focus was on accelerating high speed affordable broadband to underserviced areas, particularly for local businesses and commercial hubs,” Mr Billson said.

“Today we witnessed the first fibre splice in Frankston which will help pass 8,100 residential premises in the electorate by the end of the year.”

Mr Turnbull said the Government is determined to see the NBN rollout reach the areas of Australia that need it most.

“Since coming into government, the Coalition has tripled the number of premises connected to the NBN’s fibre, with more than 150,000 premises now connected,” Mr Turnbull said.

“The NBN roll out is progressing well in Dunkley and I’m pleased to announce build preparation has started to a further 2,400 premises in Langwarrin.

“We are getting on with the job and work has been completed/partially completed to connect The Heath Estate in Langwarrin and Peninsula Grange Retirement Village in Mornington and further areas will be announced later this year.

“The Government will continue to look at ways to make the NBN faster and more affordable than the previous government’s plan and will work with the private sector to ensure efficient delivery and rollout,” Mr Turnbull said.
