Work underway on $650,000 upgrade to improve oncolocy unit at Frankson Hospital

Local Federal MP, Bruce Billson, said work is progressing well to deliver expanded and improved oncology services at the Frankston Hospital to improve the lives of thousands of people in the area.

Mr Bruce Billson said the funding provided to Peninsula Health was necessary to ensure the Hospital could deliver treatment to more day patients.

“The oncology unit at Frankston Hospital delivers high quality services and support to those affected by cancer and also delivers a wide range of therapies to improve their quality of life,” Mr Billson said.

“The Coalition made a pre-election commitment of $650,000 to deliver improved services at the Frankston Hospital and it’s exciting to see work already underway.

“The hospital desperately needs this upgrade so patients can continue to receive high quality treatment locally and to ensure staff have the necessary resources to deliver these services.

“Increasing local services will also relieve pressure on patients and families who have previously had to travel for treatment.

“The upgrade includes creating additional space to expand day oncology services and establishing new consulting areas.

“This vital upgrade will ensure services in addition to chemotherapy and other procedures can be carried out locally by highly trained staff,” Mr Billson said.

The Frankston Hospital has been delivering best practice oncology services to the local community since 1994. Work is expected to be completed in early May.
